Kuvasarjoja ja kuvapohjaisia installaatioita

Olen valmistanut luonnonväreistä musteita ja akvarellivärejä sekä käyttänyt luonnonvärejä lankojen värjäämiseen ja tekstiilien painamiseen jo vuosia. Luonnonväriaineet ovat olleet minulle pitkään hauska harrastus, mutta viime vuosina olen alkanut tutkia niitä myös taiteilijan roolissani. Kun kuulin kasviväripohjaisesta antotypiatekniikasta, palat loksahtivat paikoilleen: ymmärsin samantien, että tässä oli tekniikka, jota olen etsinyt jo vuosien ajan Kuvien kaiku – The Echo of the Images ja Pienen on helppo kadota (työnimi) -projekteihini!
Suunnittelin antotypiaprojektejani keväästä 2019 ja alkuvuonna 2020 vihdoin pääsin aloittamaan vedosten kuvien tekemisen. Vuodet 2021-22 työskentelin antotypian parissa Koneen säätiön apurahalla. (Lisätietoja itse teoksista myöhemmin).
Projekti on aikavievä, koska tekniikka on sitä. Voisin käyttää keinotekoisia uv-valoja nopeuttaakseni prosessia, mutta minulle on tärkeää käyttää auringonvaloa, ja valotusaika on viikkoja, ellei kuukausia. Koska Suomessa valoisa kausi on lyhyt, olen ajoittanut projektini hyvin tarkkaan. Pitkinä pimeinä talvikuukausina valoa ei ole tarpeeksi valottamiseen, joten aikataulu on tarkka: pimeällä valmistelen paperit ja kuvat ja valon aikaan hoidan valottamisen. Koska tekniikka on luonnosta riippuvainen ja luonnonvalo säätelee teosten valmistumisvauhtia, kyseessä on useamman vuoden projekti.

Print series and installations

I’ve made natural dyes for inks, aquarelles and for dyeing yarn and printing fabric for several years now. The natural dyes have been more a fun hobby for me than something to do with my work as artist, but in the last few years I’ve taken more professional and investigating look on them. When I learned about anthotype, I suddenly realised, that there it was – the technique I’ve been searching for years for my Kuvien kaiku – Echo of images and It’s easy for a small one to disappear projects!
I’ve planned my projects since spring 2019 and on the beginning of 2020 I finally got to start working with anthotype. In 2021-2022 I worked with Kone Foundation grant with anthotype. (I will reveal the final installation works more later).
The project is time-consuming, because anthotype is. I could use artificial uv-lights to speed up the process, but for me it is important to use solar exposure – sun light, that is, and the exposure time is for weeks, if not months. And since I live in Finland, I have scheduled my project very precisely. Those long dark winters won’t provide me sunlight enough, so I have be sure to keep up my schedule: preparing my papers during the dark time and be ready for exposure on the sunny season. Because the process is affected by the natural light, which also regulates of how fast or slowly the exposured works will be finished, these projects takes several years to be finished.
