Kuulumattomat oli Korpilahdella sijaitsevassa Höyry-galleriassa vuonna 2011 pitämäni samannimisen näyttelyn pääteos. Kävin rakennuksessa silloin, kun galleriatila oli vielä vain idea galleriasta, ja kun kylmä vielä puri lattialankkuja. Sillä hetkellä, kun näin tyhjän, vielä remontoimattoman tilan, näin mielessäni myös hahmot, joita aloin melkein samantien työstää. Sarjan töistä kolme oli koeripustuksen omaisesti esillä alkuvuodesta 2011 Äänekosken Hoikkassalissa, mutta tosiasiassa installaatio on suunniteltu juuri Höyry-gallerian tilaa ajatellen, ja siellä se oli ensimmäisen kerran esillä kokonaisena. Tila yhtenä näyttelyelementtinä oli itselleni tärkeä tätä kokonaisuutta luodessa. Höyry-galleria tarjosi puitteet suuren, mutta askeettisen toteuttamiseen, ja halusin ottaa siitä kaiken irti: uusilla digitaalisilla tekniikoilla ja toimistotarvikkein (joskin arkistolaatuisin) toteutetun rosoisen low-tech-jäljen vastakohtana on vanhan tilan avaruus.
Kuulumattomat-installaatio koostuu kymmenestä luonnollisen kokoisesta ihmishahmosta, jotka on toteutettu lasertulostimella tulostetuista ja kollaasimaisesti arkistoteipillä toisiinsa kiinnitetyistä kuultopapereista. Hahmojen toteutus on tehty täysin tietokoneella piirtämällä, pääosin itsetehtyjä Photoshop-actioneja käyttäen. Olen tallentanut Photoshopissa piirtoprosessejani (sekä pikseli- että vektori-) ja toistanut ja tallentanut niitä aina uudelleen, yrittäen ohjata prosesseja seuraamaan ihmishahmon muotoa kunnes olen ollut tyytyväinen lopputulokseen. Näiden ohjelmoitujen toimintojen käyttäminen “pensselinä” oli minulle uusi kokemus ja näennäisestä helppoudestaan huolimatta varsin työläs. Kuvien työstöprosessi kesti useamman kuukauden.
Installaatiossa kaikki kymmenen heikosti läpikuultavaa hahmoa seisovat aina selin, mistä tahansa suunnasta niitä katsookaan.

Detached was the main work of my 2011 exhibition of same name at Höyry gallery in Korpilahti. I visited the gallery building when it was just only the idea of the gallery and when the floor boards were still bitten by frost. At the very moment, when I saw the empty, still unrenovated space, I also saw the figures in my mind, and very soon I started to work with my idea. Three of the works were shown at the Äänekoski Hoikkassali exhibition space at the beginning of the year 2011, but I really planned the whole installation with Höyry gallery space in my mind, and that is where I first exhibited the whole installation as I had planned. Also the space itself, as one exhibition element, was very important for me when I was creating this artwork. The gallery space offered room to create something big and ascetic, and I wanted to utilise it as much as possible: the low-tech prints created with new digital technology and office supplies (though archival quality ones) opposing the old, airy exhibition space.
Detached installation consists of ten life size human figures, printed with laser on transparent paper which are collage-like attached to each other with archival tape. I’ve created the figures with computer, mainly using selfmade Photoshop actions. I’ve recorded my drawing (both pixel and vector) processes and repeated and recorded the moves and over again, trying to guide the action processes to follow the shape of human beings, until I have been happy with the results. Using these programmed actions as a “brush” was a new experience for me and this process, which is apparently easy, was still very hard to manage. I used several months to work with these pictures.
In this installation all ten, slightly see-through figures are always turned away, despite of from what ever direction you are viewing them.
